Our Head of School, Mr. Han, was interviewed as a “Head of School with an unconventional background.”

This interview explores how corporate branding and education share a common essence: creating value and nurturing people, while highlighting the educational practices of Tokyo West International School and the journey of its Head of School, Yusei Han. After completing graduate studies at the University of Tokyo, Han spent approximately 26 years working in product development and human resource development at global companies. His career took a decisive turn when he was deeply inspired by the inquiry-based learning he encountered at an international school his child attended during his assignment in China.

At Tokyo West International School, the school emphasizes inquiry-based learning grounded in the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB), as well as hands-on programs such as the garden program, where students experience the full process from planting seeds to harvesting crops. Through these experiences, the school aims to cultivate not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills, independence, and collaboration. The interview also highlights the importance of skills needed in the age of AI, such as the ability to ask meaningful questions, creativity, and human-centered capabilities, stressing the significance of drawing out the innate potential within each individual in both education and business.
